WE WILL REMEMBER THEM

Recovery Memorial

A memorial service held at Dotswood, Qld on 31 August was conducted with dignity, respect, and a strong sense of family to remember the lives of WO2 Ryan Leslie and CFN Brendon Payne; two fine men taken from our ranks whilst on exercise in 2021; men who excelled at their craft; men who were loved by many.

Attendance included serving members, ex‑serving personnel, local community representatives, and family members of those being honoured. All stood side-by-side in silence and shared warm laughter as memories were recalled.

The RAEME Recovery Memorial at Dotswood, with its open landscape and historical significance, provided an appropriate backdrop for remembrance. The importance of maintaining connections across generations, and the enduring values of service, mateship, and technical excellence were evident. The gathering reflected the deep connection RAEME maintains with its history, its people, and the region. This gathering reinforced the fact that Ryan and Brendon’s service and friendships will never be forgotten.
