The production of a RAEME table centrepiece of sterling silver was first suggested in November 1977 and a silver smith was commissioned to produce the centrepiece in 1981. The centrepiece was presented in September 1982. The centrepiece has a role at formal functions with units being able to apply for its use at their formal functions.
