Some sad news - I have received the following from Len Avery and Wally Rotow, but I spoke to Pat, Rod’s partner today , and his passing was fairly easy and quick. Her email below provides some details of his illness. No details on the funeral yet.

Sadly I have to tell you that Rod passed away last Wednesday,Feb 22. In Mackay, Qld.

He had a long year health wise with numerous tests on heart, lung and kidneys. Then on Jan 23 he was diagnosed with aggressive pancreatic cancer but was already too weak to undergo treatment. He passed away quietly with myself, his son and my daughter by his side.

He stubbornly held on for a trip to Hawaii and with help of my sister and brother-in-law he spent his 71st birthday visiting the USS Arizona Memorial and the Aviation Museum, which was what he really wanted to do.  Always remained a "Possum" at heart and I have no doubt he will re-join the ranks so to speak.

Rod wa born in Birmingham,UK 22 Nov. 1945 and migrated to Australia in 1956 with his family and lived in Adelaide until we moved to Mackay.

He was loved by all his family and well liked and respected by his friends and colleagues.

A gentle soul who will be missed very much.

We have just received the following message from Richard Mueller advising that Ed Trickett passed away on Wednesday 06 August 2014. Sadly, we were not aware that Ed had been sick.

Many of us will remember Ed as being the sheet metal worker at 5 Base Workshops for many years.

We know that he served with 182 Recce Flt in Malaya from 06 April 1968 until sometime in late 1969 or early 1970 as a craftsman Airframe Fitter.

Ed was first diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of cancer back in April of this year. The doctors removed one of Ed’s kidney’s and then he underwent chemo treatment however, the cancer spread. Ed was in Royal Brisbane Hospital before being moved to the palliative care ward at Prince Charles Hospital prior to his passing.

Hi All Today, Wed 18-Sept, here in HCMC, we had Ken's cremation - a beautiful, cathartic and peaceful experience. May and Karen were picked up in the consulate car and driven to the mortuary where Dad was waiting. We were able to view him and spend time with him before he was loaded into a special van. We followed the van in our car to the Intercontinental Funeral Home, which is well out of the city. We were able sit by him, pray and meditate in beautiful peaceful surrounds, before he was taken in for cremation. His ashes will be delivered to us in the afternoon tomorrow (Thursday 19-Sept) with the cremation certificate so that he can fly with us. We 3 will fly home on Friday 20-Sept 12.30pm Singapore Airlines. Will send more soon when Memorial Ceremony is confirmed.. All the best May and Karen xoxoxoxo

I have just received a phone call from Marilyn K to advise that Bruno passed away peacefully, today, 13 June 2013. 18808 Bruno Kwas was born on 27 April 1946. Bruno had been battling deteriorating health, due to the effects of cancer, for the past few years however the cancer had recently spread to his brain and as it was a secondary cancer/tumour there was little the doctors could do to stop the growth and impact of the cancer. Bruno had been in palliative care for the past few weeks while family and friends have been at his bedside providing the love and care that he richly deserved. Bruno joined the Army in 1963 as an Army Apprentice at Balcombe in Victoria. Brunoimage

Hi all I received this from Jeff last night. Hi John, It is my unpleasant duty to ask you to post a notice on the Passing of David Everett a 33 Intake VM, RAEME Soldier who gained entry to the SAS during his military career. David was a character - a rogue and even spent some time on the wrong side of the Law - David wrote a Book titled SHADOW WARRIOR and when I last saw him at the APPY Reunion in Albury, he had done a lot of good to attone for his misadventures. David died on Monday 13 May 2013 after a short battle with Pancreatic Cancer which after his last operation moved quickly to his lungs. He died quietly - calmly with dignity and with a positive and greatful recall on his life and friends. David was 51 years young and is survived by his wife Darryl - there are no details on his funeral at this stage- David resided in the Canberra region. Fellow Spanners, It is with great regret that I have to inform you of the passing of my father, WO1 Clyde Cook (retd). At age 81, he lost his battle with a bad infection yesterday in his home. Dad served for 28 years in the Corps as a Recov Mech who eventually got tired of pulling trucks out of the mud so he went Regimental stream. Although he retired in 1979 as RSM of 3 Base Wksp Bn, Broadmeadows, he remembered with greatest affection his time at 103 Fd Wksp, particularly when located at Leichhart. It was there that he established what was then known as Cook's Private Army (they even had badges made up). This was an organisation capable of doing everything required for the betterment of the Wksp and the Corps. Dad took his love of the Corps right into his later years. Anyone who received a care pack whilst deployed may not have known that the idea for these originated from Dad along with one of his good mates from the NSW Association, Fred Jolly. As most people know, the funeral of Gene Negro was held yesterday afternoon (22 Mar 2011) at the Fremantle Cemetery. For the benefit of those people who were unable to attend, Gene was farewelled by his family and literally hundreds of friends and colleagues. In the very short time Gene was given, he had planned the format of his own funeral - he chose the music and pictorial compilation, asked for flags and pipers and even allocated friends and family to speak and deliver the eulogy etc. Given that, in true 'Gene' style, the Service was (for want of a better word) 'entertaining'! - the result was lots and lots of laughter mingled with a few unavoidable tears. At the conclusion of the Service and just prior to the Commital, something quite unusual happened - Gene received a standing ovation. To witness 600 people at a funeral applauding loudly non-stop for 2-3 minutes was quite unique, and a huge accolade for the man lying before us. Gene's family would like to express image

This message was received from John Strachan 106 Fd Wksp RAEME Assoc Inc You may or may not be aware that Norm Hicks-Hall was the victim in the residential house fire at Currumbin yesterday. I have posted some info on our website which I now attach: Post Mon 14/2/11 I was advised late this afternoon that Norm Hicks-Hall, the inaugural OC of 106 when it was raised at Nui Dat in 1968, died in a fire at his residence on the Gold Coast earlier today. Fire fighters were able to get Norm's wife out of the blazing house but were unable to rescue Norm from the blaze. When further information comes to hand I will post this to the log. Post Tue 15/2/11 We have received further advice today re Norm and Trish Hicks-Hall from the Currumbin RSL's Len Cooper who works within the RSL's Veterans' Support Centre. Following this tragedy, Trish is still in hospital, disoriented but OK. Len, who apparently was quite close to the Hicks-Halls, has taken on the task image
